Air Botswana conducts C-Check maintenance on its Aircraft fleet
As of the 30th March 2016, Air Botswana Engineering, as an Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO), commenced C-check maintenance on its ATR fleet as part of a series of heavy maintenance check visits that will run until September 2016. The airline will take on 3 C-checks on the airline’s fleet of three (3) ATR 42-500 family aircraft.
C-checks are the largest scheduled maintenance events within Air Botswana’s AMO’s approvals, granted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB). The C-checks are due every 5000 Flight Hours, which is equivalent to two and half years of operation based on Air Botswana’s flight schedule. The maintenance requires a large majority of the aircraft components to be inspected; specifically the structure and systems of the aircraft and it takes up to five weeks to complete one aircraft. All the expertise needed for the C-check maintenance will be carried out by a team of qualified Air Botswana Engineers at the Hangar at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport therefore permitting a quick turnaround required in the overhaul process. Spare parts and the refurbishments have been sourced from ATR approved organizations within the airline’s supplier database.
‘The fact that our Engineers are experienced enough to perform C – Checks on our aircraft is a major accomplishment for us, and their capability has been demonstrated in previous checks.
We place safety above everything, and being an IOSA certified AMO, means that we follow international safety standards’ said Thapelo Moribame, the Marketing Manager of Air Botswana.
The maintenance of Aircraft will not affect the Airline’s schedule operations.
