Edo's Camp Safaris – focus on sustainable tourism

Edo’s Camp Safaris has operated in the safari and game conservancy industry for over a decade and provides professional, high-class safaris where adventure combines with an intimate atmosphere and skilled staff members doing their best to meet all your needs and let you feel at ease.
However, our focus on sustainable tourism is a big feather in our cap. We strive to take our clients on a thrilling journey to cultural education and game conservation in order to give them a real insight into local communities, conservation and sustainable life in the Kalahari Desert. Let yourself be led on meeting the local San people of the nearby village and being taught on medicinal and edible desert plants and roots, visiting the nearby Children’s Home or on experiencing the emotion of tracking one of our rhinos on foot.

Accommodation and Facilities at Edos
Accommodation at Edos is in luxury Meru tents, classically African, overlooking an extensive pan lined with ancient Leadwood trees and incorporating a year round waterhole. We also have two chalets built with local stone and budget rooms off the pan, including a four bed family unit.
Our central office is equipped with a mobile phone booster and is adjacent to a professional kitchen where our locally trained excellent chef, Christofina, conjures up superb dishes focusing on local specialties and wherever possible, including game meat and veld products such as the delectable Bushman truffle and nutritious Morama bean. Our dining area is a professionally fitted Meru Style tent overlooking the floodlit pan and is an idyllic setting for dreamy African dining. Coffee after dinner can be enjoyed in our lapa area at the edge of the waterhole.

At Edo’s we offer a combination of culture and wildlife and bring these two together in our unique offer of Rhino Tracking with the San Bushmen. Our activities include:
Rhino Tracking on foot with an armed professional guide and a San Bushman tracker where we locate the rhino by vehicle and the stalk them down wind on foot as close as is safe for our guests. This is truly a unique experience. Our initial population has now grown to 15 animals and is one success story in the tragic demise of rhino elsewhere.

Game Drives with access to 60,000 hectares of game conservancy where large numbers of plains game have been stocked including White Rhino, Giraffe, Eland, Kudu, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Springbuck, Red Hartebeest, Warthog and elusive predators including Cheetah, Leopard and Brown Hyena. Sunsets over this breathtaking landscape are unforgettable.

Guided Bush Walks with a guide and San tracker where you will be amazed at the knowledge these diminutive hunters have of this seemingly harsh desert environment. On average a hunter/gatherer can identify 80 species of plant including delectable edible plants and fascinating medicinal plants.

Traditional Dance with a local San Bushmen dance group is a unique experience. This dance is truly ancient and complex involving polyphonic chant and clapping with healers shuffling around the fire wearing moth chrysalis rattles.
San Village tour to the local settlement where some 2000 San live. Here we find a museum and a flourishing contemporary San Art Project where guests can purchase artifacts and art direct from the artists.
San Cultural Skills demonstrations can also be arranged including making fire by friction, making rope and then setting traps for birds, live if guests prefer or demonstration only.

Paolo Zanichelli’s Children’s Home is located on the property and was started by the founders. The home caters for needy and orphaned local children and provides early education, wholesome meals and the basis of life skills for the future. Guests are welcome to bring donations in cash or clothing for the home.
