The safari option with Kalahari Skies
Our typical camp set up will be 4.7 x 3 meter canvas Meru tents for our clients, supplied with stretchers, mattresses, pillow, duvets and linens. There is a cupboard for luggage and a chemical toilet indoor for “emergencies”. Each client has a chair at the tent and a washbasin with towels. Shower and toilet tents are erected for every 6 people on safari or en-suite according to the chosen option and there will be a 6 x 3 meter mess tent for eating under during the day, with tables and canvas director’s chairs and, if the evenings are nice, we generally set up under the stars for dinner with a nice warm campfire.
With up to 4 clients we use a spacious gazebo instead. We specialize in safaris for small groups and families with children and all ages are welcome, our youngest was 18 months.
Our safaris vehicles are uniquely modified Toyota Landcruisers which are essentially “closed” vehicles for long hauls (i.e. trips from Maun to Moremi or to the Central Kalahari). Once we are in the parks or wildlife areas, we open them up – the windows drop down, opening the sides of the vehicle and the roof pops up so allowing the passengers to stand up and game view under shade. There are 7 adjustable bucket seats in each of the vehicles, allowing for maximum comfort. The vehicles are equipped with dual fuel tanks (which give them about a 1000 km range), 60lt. water tank, dual battery systems, 40lt. Engle Fridges (for the passenger’s cool drinks and water) and 12v. to 220v. inverter systems for recharging camera, cell phone or Ipod batteries. Each vehicle has a fully equipped first aid kit and a satellite phone is available for any emergencies and for clients use (at a charge).
A supply vehicle with a kitchen trailer accompanies each safari with over 4 participants. On our luxury version there is always a separate back up vehicle, also for 2 clients. The supply vehicle and trailer carry all the equipment, additional water, drinks, food and other materials for the trip. The trailer is equipped with its own large fridge/freezer, cooking equipment, lighting, water tanks and battery system. With 2 clients there will generally be a cook and camp assistant on board the supply vehicle which will go ahead of the safari to set up the camp before clients arrive, with more clients we add more staff accordingly.
Our safaris are well known for the high standard of the meals we serve and we have a high percentage of return clients, some even up to 7 times! Come on safari with us and regret you didn’t find us earlier.
