Splash Camp is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta, within the Private Kwara Reserve. This brand new camp will offer a very relaxed, friendly and authentic atmosphere.
Located around a pan, each of the 12 rooms is situated on a deck overlooking the pan which attracts game year round. All are en-suite with a flush toilet, double sinks and both an indoor and an outdoor shower. In addition, each room has a private veranda with outdoor lounge chairs, the perfect place to relax and take in the magnificent views and soak up the atmosphere.
The rooms and a main area will be simply and elegantly decorated with contemporary furniture which will complement the atmosphere of the camp.
The main area has a plunge pool, bar, and lounge as well as an orientation centre and a curio shop. Just in front, towards the pan is the fire pit where a light breakfast is served each day before heading off on activities, and stories are told after supper in the evenings.
The camp will have a second satellite Main Area (within the camp layout) with plunge pool, dining area and lounge and bar. This will be available to groups of 6-10 or more looking for a more intimate experience. Such groups will have no age restrictions, making the Enclave the perfect location for families. Only groups may book Splash Enclave. Enclave rooms are the Splash rooms only with a more private main area serving these rooms.
We operate our game drives using a guide and tracker, this adds to the experience on two levels. You have two sets of eyes searching out the action, looking for tracks – this ensures a good chance of sightings, especially predators. In addition, having the tracker out front, concentrating on tracking, means that the guide is more able to talk to clients, keep them informed and answer all their questions, it leads to a more relaxed, convivial game drive atmosphere.
As Splash is in a private concession we have the opportunity to drive off-road in search of sightings and also it means we are able to drive at night with spotlights. 30% of fascinating mammals are mainly active at night, so this gives us more opportunities to find them.
The mokoro trip is the quintessential delta experience. There is nothing more relaxing than poling along the lagoon and channels with your guide, soaking up the atmosphere and seeing things from a totally different perspective.
The camp also offers walking which is at the guides discretion during the green season.
Please note that the minimum age for both mokoro and walking activities is 12 years.
Fishing is also offered at Splash for 10 months of the year but is prohibited in January and February as this is peak breeding season. Basic equipment is supplied, but avid fly-fishers are advised to bring their own equipment.
There are boats available at Splash which is the perfect way to travel along the waterways and have a great view of what is going on at the water’s edge and beyond. From August to December we also offer visits to the nearby heronries currently located in Godikwe and Gcobega lagoons along the main boating channel. The number of birds fluctuates from year to year, depending on the conditions they find favourable but is a very worthwhile experience for birders.
The camp setting, among trees, while overlooking a game productive pan, is a stunning location within the large Kwara Private Reserve. The Reserve spans an area of 175 000 ha (432 000 acres).
The area has long been known as Splash due to the huge water crossings that had to be negotiated to access the camp area.
The concession shares a 30km water boundary with the famous Moremi Game Reserve and its unique location boasts both permanent water and seasonal flood plains as well as extensive dry bush wilderness. Favoured by labyrinths of permanent water channels and secret islands this area offers the perfect delta experience and is considered to be amongst the best in Botswana for game viewing and activities.
