A Year of Celebration- Botswana celebrates 50 years
30th September was Independence Day in Botswana – but this year we see the launch of a yearlong celebration of Botswana’s success. 50 years Independence and going from strength to strength. Widely recognised as one of Africa’s most stable countries politically, Botswana is applauded globally on its commitment to its people and its wildlife.
Along with the five villages that make up the Chobe Enclave, Muchenje Safari Lodge will be very active in helping celebrate 50 years with approximately 1500 community members from Mabele, Kavimba, Kachikau, Parakarungu and Satau.
2016 is a memorable year for Muchenje – it is our milestone birthday, an opportunity to celebrate 20 glorious years – in 1996 Matt & Lorna recognised the need to escape the hub of Kasane and open up the Western Chobe to visitors. By escaping the busier eastern region we enjoy exploring the quieter more exclusive side of the Western banks of the Chobe, enabling our guests to marvel at the wonders that Chobe holds, all to themselves.
There are numerous opportunities to join in the party – the BTO roadshows, BTTE in Kasane, ITB in 2017 so we hope to see you somewhere along the way. This year celebrations are being planned all over the country – and the community of Kasane and the neighbours are no exception and will giving it their best shot! Plans are afoot to bring the community and the Western operators of the Park together. Dancing, singing, poetry….. The Muchenje family look forward to assisting with the plans and preparations for this very special event.
The Muchenje Family are also going to be joining Elephants Without Borders, in support of the Global March for Elephants in Kasane in September too. Once again, with the theme “We Are Proud Of Our Wildlife Heritage” and as a community awareness project, it involves the local schools, Community Trusts, Prison Services and anyone else that wants to add their voice to this important movement. There are many Global Marches occurring all over the world, so we hope you add your feet and your voice to this worthy cause.
Muchenje Safari Lodge is heavily involved in the Western Chobe Operators initiatives. We do our utmost to coordinate the requirements of all lodges in Western Chobe. We are also at the forefront of liason with the Community and the Villages, through local authorities and Village Development Committees. We have frequent local meetings to establish good and proactive communication between all of us.
