Roots and Journeys , Launches Botswana’s “Little Lodge” circuit
Roots and Journeys is the culmination of years of combined Botswana experience of husband and wife Jacques and Anna Van der Merwe (nee Butterfield).
Having spent time working in and managing some of the country’s top camps in 2014 they embarked on their own camp project. Mopiri, meaning “little island” in the local Bayei language. Mopiri opened in 2015 and is now the flagship camp of the new group. From its opening Mopiri has proven to be extremely popular with both tour operators and clients.
The Roots and Journeys concept is to offer “the best value for money lodges and camps in Botswana combing: land, water and sand and showcasing the best of the country”
“Our aim is to create a circuit that opens up Botswana in an affordable way to a bigger market including families and multi generation travellers” To complete the Roots and Journeys circuit two new camps will open in 2017/18.
Nokanyana: situated 120 kilometres from Maun close to the Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park and meaning “Little River”. The camp is due to open in September 2017 and consists of seven standard rooms and three family suite style rooms. The main public area is split into three and comprises of a separate dining area, sitting room /lounge area and a pool area with viewing hides. As the group’s “land camp” the main activities will be game drives and walking safaris. Access is via the Kwai Airstrip.
Tsau Hills: situated in the Kalahari Desert and meaning “little hill” Tsau is the last of three developments and is due for completion in mid 2018. The lodge is situated in its own 40,000 heater concession. It will comprise of twenty four rooms built around the hill. In addition to its lodge and camp activities, Roots and Journeys manages and operates Tswii Mokoro Trails from Maun and Mochaba Crossing Lodge, designed for the self drive market.
