Safari Destinations – a Better Future

Creating a better future together.

This past year has been an exciting year full of giving. Through partnerships with Travel for Impact (TFI), our agents and our suppliers, we have developed two streams of regular annual income which is disbursed into our community. Through our agents, we ask that travelers booking through Safari Destinations donate US$1 per bed night. With our suppliers, we ask that bed nights are donated to the Bed Night Bank which we sell on at full price and the proceeds of the sale goes into the Bed Bank fund.

The US1 bed night fund has allowed us to raise money that goes directly to TFI for disbursement to fund the running costs of several organisations in Maun which support disadvantaged children, the elderly and destitute and vulnerable women  These funds allow for key personnel to be employed in order that the organisation can operate effectively in the community. In addition, this funding has resulted in over 2,000 meals being cooked and transported to 18 elderly, as well as 40 children being transported daily to school and back with a total of 112 children being fed and supported to remain in formal education.

The Bed Night Bank fund, together with funds of other donors, will go towards funding the development of the Bana Ba Letsatsi permanent facility which is being built in Disaneng this year. This facility will cater for over 100 children who are in need of care, schooling and food. This build is a P2.1million project and we are very proud to be a part of its development and growth. Bed Bank funding has also seen staff from various community organisations trained in trauma counselling and first aid training.

Equally important to us is the giving of time and personal involvement in the various projects. Our team are busy throughout the year organizing various fun days from Easter Egg hunts to Christmas Parties for the Bana ba Letsatsi children. Our staff also run a monthly mentoring programme, providing leadership and hope for young children. Our team often take to the streets asking shoppers outside our local supermarket for food donations in support of the elderly.

We have an annual renovation project which last year featured renovations of the War Safe House and grounds, ensuring a comfortable and welcoming environment for vulnerable women and children. A new community project in 2018 was the adoption of Sekogma Primary School. Developments there included the updating of their IT lab with the skill and input of our IT staff, and the planting of an orchard. We are also proud to be a contributor of “Pack for a Purpose” this year, in support of Sekogma Primary School, and welcome your collaboration in promoting this initiative to your clients.

Community is what it is all about, and we are so thrilled that our agents, suppliers, Civil Society Organisations and our team have pulled together in order to create a better future for those in need. It takes a village, and the benefits for all have been fantastic as the spirit of giving and community come together.
