Safari Destinations – High season advice

High season in Botswana is upon us and in preparation we would like to share some important details for travellers to remember when planning their safari holiday.

Important: Long Waiting Times at Johannesburg OR TAMBO Immigration
The queues at OR Tambo are getting worse, with many travellers being affected by long waiting times. It is important that visitors to Botswana allow enough time to catch their connecting flights when confirming flight tickets.

South African Airlines New Flight Times
The new departure times with SAA at 12h30 from Maun to Johannesburg do not allow guests arriving from mobile safaris to connect on time. This would be too early and chances that guests miss their connection are very high. Therefore an overnight in Maun should be booked in order to avoid flight connections being missed.

Requirements for Travelling with Children
A trip to Africa is an exceptional adventure and will give your children life-long memories. To make sure everything goes smoothly however, one needs to adhere to the regulations in place regarding travel for all children under the age of 18. Parents travelling with children under the age of 18 years of age will be required to produce an unabridged birth certificate (including both parents details) for all children travelling. In cases where a parent is travelling alone with the children/child, an affidavit or court order is required from the absent parent. Certified copies are currently accepted but original documents are preferable.

Medical Prescription and Travel Insurance
Travellers who require prescription medication are advised to carry it in their personal carry-on luggage and NOT in their checked luggage in case of luggage lost luggage. Prescription medication is not readily available in remote areas.

All insurance and Travel details should be in place on file in ones carry-on luggage. Insurance arrangements and fees are the sole responsibility of the traveller and they should therefore arrange their own insurance for the full duration of their trip.

Passports and Visa Validity
Passports must have at least 6 months validity before the expiry date and six empty pages (not including the endorsement pages). The onus is upon the guests to ensure that passports and visas are valid for all the countries visited. Please also note that certain visas can take up to three months to process, so please consider this when booking.

Self Drive Botswana
Lodge to Lodge self-drives are becoming more popular. However it is important to have the tools and information in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable self-driving experience. Road conditions in Botswana can be challenging and include soft sand, slippery clay and deep water. It is also important to know what the rules and regulations are when it comes to the various National Parks and Game reserves in and around Botswana and Southern Africa.
