Unlike the previous year, the rain this year has been temperamental and very patchy even within Maun itself whereby depending where you are in town you’re either soaked or very dusty.
Because of this, the animal movement based on grazing has been difficult to predict and in some areas, is late to arrive and therefore might be late to leave again.
The Pans are soaked with lots of plains game making the most of the water and fresh grass whereas Nxai Pan has only very recently received rain which has filled up the pans but the lack of grazing ensures the zebra migration hasn’t arrived yet.
Linyanti is thick and green but Savute the grasses haven’t started growing yet because the rains are late.
The Delta water levels have dropped so water activities are limited in most areas and will be advised on a case by case basis, this does make for good game viewing on foot and by a vehicle with larger areas to traverse. Khwai has received good rains with thick bush, good game but very sticky roads which makes self-drives a challenge.
