Sanctuary Retreats Brings Camps and Lodges to Life for Agents – Innovative Use of Google Cardboard and the Street View App-

Agents can now ‘virtually’ experience Sanctuary Retreats’ luxurious African safari lodges and camps thanks to the introduction of new footage that can be viewed through Google Cardboard and their Street View app.

Specialist safari operators Sanctuary Retreats (www.sanctuaryretreats.com) is the first UK-based luxury safari company to bring their ‘Luxury, naturally’ experience to life for agents with the creation of a range of Street Views of five of its African lodges – available both online at www.sanctuaryretreats.com and through the Google Street View app in conjunction with Google Cardboard.

Google Cardboard makes a virtual reality headset out of a simple piece of cardboard and a mobile phone.  Once put together, users put their phone into it and look through the lenses. In combination with compatible apps, this provides an incredible real world experience for users with their phone placed at the optimal distance away from the lenses. The lenses create a 3D effect when held up to eye level and users can even move their head around and the images will respond.

In partnership with expert wildlife cameraman Chris du Plessis, films have been created of Sanctuary Baines’ Camp, Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp and Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero in Botswana; Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge in South Africa and Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma in Zambia. Further camps will be added over the coming months.  From poling mokoros in the Okavango to walking safaris with Elephants, to the magical views over the Zambezi from Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma, the extraordinary wilderness and wildlife experiences on offer with Sanctuary Retreats are now available in virtual reality.

Renette Hartridge, UK Director of Sales for Sanctuary Retreats commented, ‘Selling a luxury safari has just become a lot easier thanks to this amazing technology. With clients always looking for unique and incredible experiences, these films can give them a sample of what is on offer at the Sanctuary lodges and camps.  We are committed to working with the trade, and will support fam trips wherever we can. Where this isn’t possible, the 3600 videos enable agents to view the lodges from the comfort of their desks, or, with the help of Google Street view cameras, they can enjoy an even more vivid adventure. Clients can also take a virtual walk around the properties before booking.’
