Sanctuary Retreats – Camp Reimagined

Sanctuary Stanley’s camp reimagined - Classic elegance for contemporary travelers at this reimagined tented safari camp which lets guests game-watch from bed in an exclusive private Okavango Delta concession.

Key new features:

  • New significantly larger tents, with reconfigured rooms and mosquito nets
  • Enhanced in-room experience includes new compact gyms, yoga equipment, minibar, and coffee station
  • New breezy central tent with new Explorer Lounge
  • New outdoor bar area, with views over the wildlife-rich floodplains
  • Significant structural changes to fit in with the latest environmental requirements
  • New solar farm, which will generate 80% of the camp’s electricity

A camp with a conscience
Constructed with sustainability in mind, the new tent structures have a lighter footprint, yet are strong in style. A new solar farm will minimise the impact on the local environment and will generate 80% of the camp’s electricity. The furniture, fittings and interiors have been redesigned to create an entirely new feel for all the atmospheric accommodation, with touches such as woven basket lights conjuring traditional Botswanan craftsmanship. The camp’s close connection with the local community enhances the feel-good impression given by this intimate lodge. Since the concession belongs to its community and most of the team is from the local area, there’s a special working partnership between Sanctuary Retreats and its African neighbours, and a true sense of belonging.

Wildlife in widescreen
Big views of the Big Four — the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo and the African leopard — are practically guaranteed here on the Okavango Delta where the wildlife and game viewing is staggeringly special. Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp is also home to a unique elephant interaction project created in partnership with the Living with Elephants foundation. Thanks to this initiative, guests at Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp have an extraordinary opportunity to take bush walks with orphaned elephants — as you explore on foot, take in the world from an elephant’s perspective. There’s also a programme operated by the philanthropy team which introduces local Batswana children to elephants and through nurturing this human-elephant dynamic sensitively, conflict between man and beast is reduced.

Private concession, private experience
Shared only with Sanctuary Baines’ Camp, this vast patch of the river delta in northern Botswana is so private that only Sanctuary Retreats’ vehicles tour these precious, pristine grassy plains. This ensures a more-exclusive safari experience and allows a deeper connection for all with the wild and promising show-stopping sightings of the Big Four. Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp is also considered one of the best places in the world to view buffalo in large numbers.

Land and water safaris
As well as game drives and walking safaris, during flood season it is possible to plan mokoro boating rides. Adventures on this traditional canoe take place when it is the high-water season on the Okavango, June to August. This time of year also sees a dazzling array of animals migrating to the Delta for the mild winter climate, making an exceptional viewing.

Prices at Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp start from $550 per person per night. This price is based on two people sharing and is inclusive of all meals and drinks (excluding premium brands), scheduled game activities, transfers to and from Stanley’s Airstrip.
