Desert & Delta Safaris is proud to have been shortlisted in the People Award category in this year’s prestigious Tourism For Tomorrow Awards hosted by the World Travel and Tourism Council.
The people award category, as stated by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC); is open to any organisation, or partnership of organisations, which is dedicated to improving career opportunities for people within Travel & Tourism.
Desert & Delta Safaris was selected as a finalist for our ongoing management training program which educates, trains and supports local Botswana citizens in becoming lodge managers. The program is a year-long course comprising of multiple factors including a detailed in-house designed curriculum, a variety of courses conducted by external companies and finally practical assessments in our camps as trainee managers.
The impact the program has had on our staff and the individuals who have completed the course is significant. We firmly believe our local management team is the backbone to the success of our business as is the staff whom they manage on a daily basis. For our guests, staying at a locally managed lodge allows them to not only enjoy the countries diverse wildlife and natural beauty but also actively engage with its people, a fundamental part of the safari experience.
With all our camps currently closed (through the month of February) for maintenance our camp managers gathered at Camp Moremi for the annual AGM. Every year the management teams from each camp get together with our operations department to reflect on the previous year and plan for the peak season ahead in an open discussion forum. This year the mood was especially jovial after news of the People Award listing spread amongst the management teams.
Desert & Delta Safaris is not the only Botswana based organization to be listed in the 2017 Tourism For Tomorrow Awards. The Botswana Tourism Organization is a finalist in the Destination Award category. Having Botswana featured in two categories among so many global entries is an extraordinary achievement. Finalists will be announced at the WTTC’s Global Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on 26 April.
