Yoga Safaris – Stargazing Tour

Yoga Safari is pleased to be able to offer a Botswana Safari and Stargazing Tour with world renowned Astronomer Stephen James O’Meara – July 17 – 23, 2020

An Adventure of a Lifetime

Join world renowned astronomer and contributing writer to Astronomy Magazine, Stephen James O’Meara on an incredible Stargazing Safari in the untamed wilds of Botswana. Our journey takes us to three key wildlife habitats in search of the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo) while enjoying the stars under light-pollution-free skies — dark enough for the Milky Way and planets to cast shadows!

Experience Three Key African Environments

  • Okavango Delta. This World Heritage site is a vast inland river delta and one of Africa’s last remaining great wetland habitats for large concentrations of bird and animal life. It is in a region like this where the human eye is thought to have evolved. During our stay at Setari, we’ll have opportunities to sight hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and if we are lucky the elusive sitatunga, a rare semi-aquatic antelope.
  • Khwai Private Reserve. The Khwai area is rich with wildlife and as it’s a private reserve we have the opportunity of driving off track to get a closer view of the animals. During our stay at Sable Alley, we’ll have opportunities to sight lion, leopard, hippos, elephants, Cape buffalo, and so much more.
  • Savute is one of Africa’s best-known wildlife areas with sizeable concentrations of elephants, lions, giraffes, and hyenas — as well as the Kori Bustard, the world’s largest flying bird, and Botswana’s national bird.

Spectacular Starlight

All three regions are among Africa’s darkest sites for observing the southern stars. Stephen can’t wait to share with you its splendours through our 8-inch telescope. The beauty of this trip is that everything is optional — you can enjoy the stargazing or the safaris at your own pace. Want to watch the wildlife alone from camp rather than from a safari vehicle? Fantastic! Enjoy! Want to spend time alone with the stars from camp rather than travelling to an observing site. Wonderful! Want to participate in all the activities. Great! There will always be space for you.

So join Stephen in Botswana for this trip of a lifetime and take home cherished memories of real Africa and its natural wonders, from wildlife to the stars and back.

Rates for this once in a lifetime Stargazing Safari starts at US$ 8,995.00 per person sharing and the dates are July 17 – 23, 2020.
