Limpopo Horse Safaris – River flooding

News July 2013
This year started memorably with our Limpopo River flooding in late January, 2012 having been a very dry year we were all of a sudden inundated with more than 360ml of rain over a 24 hour period. Luckily our guide David was on duty and he was extremely efficient at evacuating the horses and dogs before they got panicked by all the water in the stables. Our houses were all flooded but we were lucky and no irreversible damage done. Pictured above is the Limpopo which you can see burst its banks for kilometres across, sweeping down fences and cars in the process!

After such an eventful start we then moved on to a very relaxing Yoga safari! Guests enjoyed morning rides with optional yoga in the afternoons lead by yoga guru and dressage rider Caro Gaya.

This was the followed by the very sad loss of Tsaone horse Highlander to a colic. However we have had the luck to find 4 very nice new horses. Casablanca a warmblood who is 16.3 and 7 years old, Mr Fun a 15.1 crossbreed who is 10 years old, Walker Bay a 16.2  4 year old Warmblood, Shire, TB cross! And Monty a 3 year old Clysdale cross.

We have also been very lucky to have Charlie Lane and his wife Jo come and spend a week with us after doing our Limpopo Lodge ride.We had masses of fun with them and learnt a lot.

Thanks to Kate Barrow and her Dad Simon we were able to get space for a stand at Poplar Park Horse Trials in April and joined forces with Holly from  Far n Ride and Louise’s Dad; Randall White to exhibit our safaris. Again we were able to get a stand at Breightling Horse Trials in July this time it was my Dad and Claire from 2by2 Holidays. Finally we have also planned to attend Osberton later in the year with Jane from Safari Consultants. All those who book because of the show are able to take advantage of our show special come and see us to find out more about it. We do hope to make all these shows a yearly event so hope to see some of you there.

We also had two Best of Botswana rides to date, both very popular with Guests enjoying the mixture of 5 nights of the Tuli and 5 nights at African Horseback Safaris Macatoo camp. Louise also had the privilege of joining a group in June for the Macatoo part of the ride. ”what an amazing experience and such a contrast to the very arid Mashatu Game Reserve!”   Pictured below the rest of the group on the Tuli safari.

We have discovered a very luxurious newly built Tented Camp on neighbouring Pitsani Reserve and had the privilege to stay during our Limpopo Lodge ride in July. We have a current special for this ride  for the 22nd and 29th December 2013.

Limpopo Valley School continues to thrive and we now have a dedicated school house for the kids to be able to concentrate better!

Finally we have at long last built a pool at Two Mashatus camp with a lovely deck all around it! So if you feel like some warm weather and relaxed riding with lovely green vegetation and water in the rivers, and a pool to cool off in during  lunch time, Come and stay at our Two Mashatu camp during November, December, February and March.

Hope to see you all again soon and wishing you a lovely summer
Cor and Louise and the LHS Team.
